We are delighted to announce the launch of theatre@41.
theatre@41 is the name of our new youth group.
theatre@41 is a project led performing arts group for young people who are interested in performing on stage.
Our aim is to have a different director and production team for each project, which we hope will give young people a wide experience of the performing arts by working with various local talented directors and makers of live theatre
Each project will take place for a specified period and more often during school holidays.
Projects will finish with public performances in the John Cooper Studio @41monkgate.
theatre@41 will also hope to collaborate with other groups in the City.
The project fee will depend on the length of the project and we have a hardship fund which means that no-one should be excluded because of the cost
Our first project is:
Henry VI……the Wars of the Roses!
‘When creating his highly detailed fantasy world, George R.R. Martin based much of Game of Thrones on medieval European history. In particular Martin drew heavily from the Wars of the Roses’………………….
theatre@41 will perform one of Shakespeare’s most exciting plays that features the Duke of York, the warrior Queen Margaret, and a young Richard III. The play contains virtually every device used by Shakespeare from conjuring spirits, to a lying politician who leads a revolution, battle scenes, love scenes and heartbreak, political intrigue, assassination, and trial by combat.
All aspiring actors need Shakespeare on their cv, so come and be part of theatre@41 and join in this amazing summer youth project in the year Shakespeare takes central stage in York.
The project will take place from August 6-18 (2 weeks) finishing with performances in the John Cooper Studio @41monkgate and on the Wagon Stage outside the pop-up Rose Theatre. Over the course of the two weeks, participants will play lots of theatre games, learn professional approaches to Shakespeare’s texts and the basics of stage combat.
