Jim Welsman

 I am full of admiration for the creative use of the space that the many community and emerging professional groups bring to Theatre@41 where imaginative and innovative theatre is encouraged and supported adding a new dimension to live theatre in York.

Jim's Story

JIM WAS CHAIR OF THE BOARD OF THEATRE@41 FOR 5 YEARS AND WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN CREATING THE UNIQUE VENUE THAT IT IS TODAY.

JIM HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN THEATRE FOR MANY YEARS, STARTING IN TAUNTON, SOMERSET, WHERE HE WAS CHAIR OF THE ARTS CENTRE AND THEATRE ASSOCIATION (ACTA) AT THE BREWHOUSE THEATRE.

WITH HIS WIFE JOAN HE WAS INVOLVED WITH MANY MUSICAL THEATRE COMPANIES IN DEVON AND SOMERSET AND SINCE COMING TO YORK IN 1980 HAS BEEN A MEMBER OF YORK MUSICAL THEATRE COMPANY INCLUDING 13 YEARS AS CHAIR.

AS A PERFORMER HE HAS PLAYED MANY ROLES INCLUDING CAPTAIN SMITH IN THE UK PREMIERE OF TITANIC THE MUSICAL AT YORK THEATRE ROYAL AND THE GORDON CRAIG THEATRE IN STEVENAGE.
